Position Title: Medical Assistant
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Location: OnSite Care Clinic
Reports To: Clinic Provider, Practice Manager, Operations Manager

Overall Responsibility:
Medical Assistants (MA) performs a variety of patient care activities, such as administering injections, EKGs, phlebotomy, and various other procedures including front office tasks. The MA must deliver quality customer service and maintains established quality control standards.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
Schedules appointments for patients. Greets all patients with a smile, checks-in patients. Observes, organizes, responds to and clears incoming emails to the clinic. Ensures clinic is open and ready for patients prior to clinic start, performs light room clean up after the clinic is closed. Arranges follow up appointments for those needing them as they leave the clinic. Triages walk in patients and incoming phone calls during office hours. Treats all patients with respect and care, in a welcoming and friendly manner. Prepares and cleans treatment rooms for examination of patients, keeps orderly desk, files and reception area. Competently takes all patient vitals, blood draws, immunizations and perform CLIA waived tests. Has good knowledge of all clinic treatments and procedures. Cleans and sterilizes instruments and dispose of contaminated supplies. Assists in examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a provider. Interviews patients, measures vital signs (i.e. pulse, rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, height)and records information on patients' charts. Will be required to draw and collect blood samples from patients and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis. Prepares and administers medications as directed by a provider. Explains treatment procedures, medications, diets and provider' instructions to patients. Helps providers examine and treat patients, handing them instruments and materials or performing such task as giving injections, changing dressings and removing sutures. Authorizes drug refills and provide prescription information to pharmacies. Assures lab tests are recorded in the record, timely lab return and continuous monitoring of receipt of lab results and communication to physician about the same results as an integral daily task. Performs general office duties such as answering telephones, collecting patient payments, and completing billing forms. Keeps medical supplies and vaccines Inventory organized and stocked. Orders and maintains office supplies and equipment. Manages patient flow and communicate with Provider and patients about wait times and schedule. Organizes daily receipts and completes daily log. Performs other duties as assigned.

Skills and Attributes:
Good knowledge of EMR system and computer skills. Is always courteous and acts in a professional manner. Listens well to instructions, supports clinic team effort and contributes to clinic goals. Maintains confidentiality and fully understands the rules of HIPAA. Knowledge of EMR , Point of care testing, and injections including immunizations. Strong sense of customer service and excellent patient care skills.Phlebotomy skills.

Requires a high school diploma and completion of a medical assistant course. CMA certification is preferred. Certification a plus. Bi-lingual in Spanish is a plus.

Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit; use hands and fingers, handle or feel and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.

Employment is contingent upon successfully passing a background check, E-verification and drug testing. In addition, employees are subject to random drug testing.
